The Woodstock Navy Vets continued their strong showing at the Eli Palfreyman Memorial Tournament on Friday afternoon, earning a 5-1 victory over Ridley College at the North Dumfries Community Complex in Ayr.
The win moves the Vets to 2-0 through the opening two days of the tournament, following Thursday night’s 6-1 victory over the host Ayr Centennials.
Robert Landry got Woodstock on the board 14 minutes into the opening period, breaking in alone and converting on a breakaway to give the Vets a 1-0 advantage heading into the first intermission.
The Vets added to their lead in the second period.
Will McGregor found the back of the net before Cohen Chamberlain converted from the point to extend Woodstock’s advantage to 3-0 through 40 minutes.
The Vets continued to apply pressure in the third, adding two more goals to build a 5-0 lead.
Ridley eventually broke through late in the game on the power play, but that would be the only blemish on an otherwise excellent 49-save performance from Ian Kubelka in the Woodstock net.

The victory continues an encouraging weekend for a young Navy Vets lineup that also features several affiliate players gaining valuable experience against strong competition.
Through two tournament games, the Vets have outscored their opponents 11-2 as the group continues to build toward the beginning of its inaugural GOHL regular season.
Woodstock now turns its attention to its final preliminary-round game of the weekend.
The Vets will face Pittsburgh Penguins Elite on Saturday at 1:00 PM in Ayr, with Sunday’s opponent and game time to be determined by the results of the tournament’s opening three days.
