The Woodstock Navy Vets are pleased to continue the organization’s “Welcome to Anchortown” series with the signing of defenceman Hunter Currie for the 2026-27 season.
A 2009-born defenceman from Lively, Ontario, Currie joins the Navy Vets after a strong season with the BioSteel Sports Academy U18 AAA program, one of the premier hockey development programs in the province.
During the 2025-26 season, Currie recorded 8 goals and 15 assists for 23 points in 42 regular season games, showcasing his ability to contribute offensively while playing a dependable game in his own zone.
“We’re very excited to welcome Hunter and his family to the Navy Vets,” said Darren Young, General Manager of the Woodstock Navy Vets. “Hunter is a talented puck-moving defenceman who skates well, defends at a high level, and has the ability to generate offence from the back end. Beyond his ability on the ice, he’s a high-character, hard-working young man who fits exactly what we’re looking to build as an organization.”
Currie’s ability to move the puck efficiently, make smart decisions under pressure, and contribute offensively makes him a complete defenceman capable of impacting the game in all three zones. His strong skating and hockey IQ allow him to transition play effectively, while his defensive awareness makes him a reliable presence on the blue line.
With a combination of talent, work ethic, and character, Currie brings all the tools to continue developing into an impactful junior defenceman.
