Welcome Back to Anchortown: Woodstock Native Will Wright Returns

The Woodstock Navy Vets are pleased to continue the organization’s “Welcome to Anchortown” series with the return of defenceman Will Wright for the 2026-27 season.

A Woodstock native, Wright returns to the Navy Vets after splitting last season between the St. Marys Lincolns and the Navy Vets. The 2008-born, right-shot defenceman joined Woodstock later in the season and quickly established himself as an important piece of the club’s blue line.

Having already gained valuable experience at the GOHL level before arriving in Woodstock, Wright brought confidence, composure, and maturity to the Navy Vets’ defence corps. Now, he’ll look to build on that experience as he returns to his hometown team.

“We’re thrilled to have Will back in a Navy Vets uniform,” said Darren Young, General Manager of the Woodstock Navy Vets. “He’s a player we’ve always believed has a tremendous amount of potential. His skating is outstanding, he moves the puck exceptionally well, and he has the ability to defend against top players. As a local kid, it’s exciting to see him continue his development here in Woodstock.”

Wright’s mobility allows him to impact the game in every zone. Whether it’s leading the rush, making a crisp first pass, or shutting down opposing forwards, he brings a well-rounded game that makes him a reliable presence on the back end. His ability to transport the puck and transition play quickly will be an important asset for the Navy Vets this season.

For the organization, Wright’s return represents more than just adding another talented defenceman. It’s another opportunity to see a local player continue his development while representing his hometown and helping the Navy Vets pursue success.

The Woodstock Navy Vets are excited to welcome Will back to Anchortown and look forward to seeing him continue to make an impact on and off the ice this season.
