A 5-goal outburst in the 3rd period by the Warriors broke open a close game as the Vets suffered a 8-4 loss to Stratford at Southwood Arena on Sunday night in the final home pre-season contest.
16-year old defenceman Sebastien Fortin, fresh off his appearance at the OHL camp of the North Bay Battalion, scored twice for the Vets. Jordan Vanderlip and Justin Cantwell scored the other Vets goals.
Vanderlip also had an assist while returning defenceman Will McGregor chipped in 2 assists.
Ryder Kowtaluk faced a barrage of shots in the Vets net and made 32 saves in taking the loss.
The Vets opened the scoring on Vanderlip’s powerplay goal and they led 2-1 after the 1st period.
Stratford took the lead with 2 quick goals just over the 14-minute mark of the middle frame but the Vets bounced right back with a tying goal less than a minute later and the 2nd period ended with the teams tied 3-3.
The Vets will participate in the Eli Palfreyman Memorial Tournament in Ayr this coming weekend.
